Missouri State women lose to San Diego

Updated: September 20, 2009
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Missouri State women’s soccer team (4-4-2) were able to hold No. 18 San Diego (6-3-1) off the scoreboard until the 84th minute as the Toreros defeated the Bears 1-0 at Jayhawk Soccer Complex today.

Missouri State goalkeeper Jessica Teahan built her scoreless streak to 425:58 before the Toreros got one past her in the 84th minute.  Teahan’s streak was the longest since Jackie Jasper went 478 minute without allowing a goal in 2006 (Sept. 8-Sept. 24).

The Missouri State offense mustered six shots in the match.  Rachel Weimer and Jenna Dobkins led the Bears with two shots each.  Nia Williams added the Bears lone shot on goal.

San Diego scored the goal off of a low feed by Hallie Huston across the box that Stephanie Ochs hit into the back of the net.  The Toreros tallied 19 shots in the match and earned 14 corners, but the Missouri State defense held firm until the late goal.

“I felt good about the way we played today,” said head coach Rob Brewer.  “Jessica (Teahan) played well for us and we showed that we can defend against teams of this caliber.”

Missouri State will return home to open conference play against UNI on Sunday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Plaster Field.
