Cardinal and Zips remain undefeated and #1

Stanford and Akron retained their top positions in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 64 and 48 National Rankings. Both teams won matches on the weekend to remain undefeated on the season.

Meanwhile Cal Poly goalkeeper Coral Hoover and UCLA’s Kyle Nakazawa are the respective Women’s and Men’s Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, as part of the TDS College Teams of the Week.

Hoover earned a pair of shutout wins as the Mustangs surprised a pair of PAC 10 opponents, including previous top 5 side California. Nakazawa scored three goals as Jorge Salcedo’s Bruins continued their winning ways.

In the women’s ranking, Stanford and North Carolina, which earned a pair of ACC wins, remained 1-2, while Florida State vaulted to the #3 spot with a pair of wins including a victory over previously unbeated Boston College, which falls to #5. Portland remains at #4 after their win.

In the men’s ranking, Wake Forest and Maryland move back up to #2 and #3 behind the #1 Zips, Maryland having earned a big win over conference rival North Carolina. The Tar Heels drop, but only to #5, while Northwestern slots in at #4.

The ranking is a running effort to project the post-season NCAA Tournament field, including automatic conference qualifiers and At-Large berths. A number of new teams are present this week in both the men’s and women’s rankings.

– led the Mustangs to shutout wins over PAC 10 opponents California and Arizona, recording a number of big saves in the process.
Malorie Rutledge, LSU – Scored a goal and recorded five assists as LSU took two big SEC wins.
Rachel Yepez, LSU – Scored three goals and added two assists as the Tigers swept a pair of matches.
Lindsay Thompson, Florida  – Scored a pair of goals including the overtime winner in the Gators’ victory over Kentucky.
Devin Petta, Northeastern  – Scored a hat trick in a win vs. Drexel and added an assist in a draw with Delaware.
Tiffany  McCarty, Florida State – Scored two goals and added an assist in a pair of wins for the Seminoles.
Lauren Fowlkes, Notre Dame – Scored a pair of goals as Notre Dame earned two Big East Conference wins on the weekend.
Laura Heyboer, Michigan State – Scored two goals and had two assists as Michigan State picked up a win and a draw for the week.
Whitney Palmer, Oklahoma – Scored three goals in two matches for the Sooners.
Carlee Payne, BYU – Scored two goals and added an assist in a pair of wins for the Cougars.
Karin Volpe, Arizona State – Scored a pair of goals as the Sun Devils won two matches on the weekend.
