UC Irvine women lose to San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (7-3-1) lost 2-1 at San Diego State in overtime Sunday at the SDSU Sportsdeck.

Freshman Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS got an assist from junior Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) and knocked it in from 12 yards out in the 23rd minute for a 1-0 Anteater lead. Gretel Amman got a rebound 20 yards out and put it in the left corner tying the match at 1-1 in the 67th minute. Jessica Gordon got the game-winner in the third minute overtime for the Aztecs on a rebound of a header inside the box.

Junior keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had six saves for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Aubree Southwick had six saves for SDSU.

The ‘Eaters will kick off the Big West season Friday as they host UC Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
