IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 23 UC Irvine men’s soccer team (6-4, 0-2) lost 2-1 to UC Davis in double overtime Wednesday night in Big West Conference play at Anteater Stadium.

Senior Kevin Santora (Los Altos/Bellarmine College Prep) crossed the ball from the left side of the box to senior Irving Garcia (San Luis, Ariz./Yavapai College) in front of the box and passed it on to junior Corey Attaway (Chino HS) on the right. Attaway slipped the ball through traffic and inside the right post to put UCI up 1-0 in the 11th minute. In the 29th minute, Julian Godinez took a free kick and sent it into the box where it was headed in by Nathan Javadi to tie the match at 1-1. UCI was awarded a penalty kick in the 63rd minute following a hand ball inside the box on the Aggies.

Junior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) took the kick for the ‘Eaters and kicked it to the lower right corner where it was saved by keeper Ryan McCowan. The score remained 1-1 through the end of regulation and the first overtime period. Michael Garrick found a breaking Paul Marcoux in the second overtime period and Marcoux was able to get the ball into the net past junior keeper Victor Chinchilla (Palmdale/Taft College) who was off his line at the 105:45 mark.

Chinchilla had zero saves in the net for UCI. McCowan had five saves for the Aggies.

The ‘Eaters return to action Wednesday as they travel to Albuqueque, N.M. to take on New Mexico in non-conference play at 6:00 p.m. PT at the UNM Soccer Complex.
