Updated: October 4, 2009
IRVINE, Calif. The UC Irvine’s soccer team (8-3-1, 1-0) defeated UC Santa Barbara 3-0 Friday night in Big West Conference play at Anteater Stadium.

Freshman Sarah Devine (Poway HS) headed in a ball off a corner kick by freshman Dana Sanderlin (Upland HS) in the 37th minute to give UCI a 1-0 lead. The ‘Eaters came out quickly in the second half as Sanderlin passed a ball to junior Milana Shabestari (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) who blasted the ball to the upper left corner of the net giving UCI a 2-0 lead at 46:54. Just over a minute later, Sanderlin this time found freshman Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) on the left side of the box. Delarosa sent it across the cage and into the right side of the net for a 3-0 ‘Eater lead in the 49th minute.

Junior keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had two saves as she earned her sixth shutout of the season. Keeper Ali Cutler had one save for the Gauchos.

Sanderlin’s three assists ties a UCI record set by Gina Hintz against Utah State in 2001.

The ‘Eaters will host Cal Poly Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Big West action at Anteater Stadium.
