UC Irvine men beat New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The UC Irvine men’s soccer team (7-4, 0-2) defeated New Mexico 2-1 in overtime Wednesday night in non-conference play at the UNM Soccer Complex.

Senior Irving Garcia (San Luis, Ariz./Yavapai College) one timed a ball that found the net in the 82nd minute to put the ‘Eaters up 1-0. Lobo Simon Ejdemyr headed in a throw in by Justin Davis in the 86th minute to tie the match at 1-1 and send it into overtime. Garcia struck again in overtime as he dribbled around a defender before finding the back of the net in the 96th minute giving UCI the win.

Junior keeper Victor Chinchilla (Palmdale/Taft College) had five saves as he earned the win in net for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Justin Fite had two saves for the Lobos.

The ‘Eaters return to Big West play Saturday as they travel to Northridge to take on Cal State Northridge at 3:00 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field.
