West Virginia women play Villanova to draw

 VILLANOVA, Pa. (October 16, 2009) - Chalk one up for the weather at the West Campus Soccer Complex Friday afternoon in Villanova, Pa. West Virginia and Villanova fought the rain, wind, mud and chilly temperatures in playing to a 0-0 double-overtime draw.

“We played hard in some terrible condition today,” said WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We had some decent looks but couldn’t find the back of the net.”

The Mountaineers finished with a 17-10 shot advantage that included 10 shots on-goal. Forward Chelsey Corroto paced the Mountaineers with four shots.

WVU also held an 11-4 edge on corner kicks.

Kerri Butler made two saves in working her fourth-straight shutout of the season - a scoreless streak of 380 minutes.

Villanova goalkeeper Molly Williams finished with 10 saves on the day.

The Mountaineers played in their seventh overtime match of the season.

West Virginia moves to 7-4-5 (4-2-2 BIG EAST) while Villanova goes to 10-3-3 (3-3-2 BIG EAST).

The Mountaineers return to action with a match against Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
