October 17, 2009
HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 16, 2009 – James Madison scored twice in the second half as the Dukes defeated Old Dominion 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Friday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.

With the win, the Dukes improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the CAA, while the Monarchs dropped to 6-6-4 and 2-2-3 in conference play.  Old Dominion’s loss ended a four-game unbeaten streak (1-0-3), which stretched back to Sept. 27.

After a scoreless first half, junior Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) opened the scoring in the 58th minute when she collected a rebound about 25 yards out.  Rynier settled the ball and fired a shot into the right side of the goal to put JMU up 1-0.

Just 11 minutes later, redshirt freshman Kelly Germain (McLean, Va./Langley) scored her first collegiate goal only three minutes after she came on as a sub.  After receiving a chip over the defense from senior Corky Julien (Williamstown, Ontario/Char-Lan District), Germain took a dribble and then beat freshman goalkeeper Bri Alvarado (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) with a shot to the right side of the net.

JMU outshot Old Dominion 15-8, including an 8-3 lead in the second half, and forced seven saves out of Alvarado.  Dukes’ redshirt junior Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) recorded four saves en route to her third shutout of the season.
