UC Irvine men down UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – The No. 22 UC Irvine men’s soccer team (11-4, 4-2) defeated UC Davis 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Big West Conference action at Aggie Field.

John Joslin had a shot saved by junior keeper Victor Chinchilla (Palmdale/Taft College) in the 25th minute, the rebound off the save was then put in by Chris Leer giving UC Davis a 1-0 lead. Senior Irving Garcia (San Luis, Ariz./Yavapai College) took a free kick from 25 yards out and put it into the box where it was headed in by junior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) at the 33:00 mark tying the match at 1-1. Freshman Zach Olow (Poway HS) got an assist from senior Carlos Aguilar (Palmdale/Taft College) as he sent the ball inside the left post in the 80th minute putting the ‘Eaters up 2-1.

Chinchilla had four saves for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Ryan McCowan had two saves in the first half for the Aggies and keeper Matt Provencher had one saves in the second half.

The ‘Eaters next travel cross-county to Fullerton Wednesday where they will face Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 p.m. at Titan Stadium in a Big West Conference match.
