Charlotte women draw with St. Louis

St. Louis, MO - The 24th-ranked Charlotte’s soccer team (15-2-2, A-10: 9-0-2) tied Saint Louis, 0-0, to extend their unbeaten streak against A-10 competition to 26 games. Charlotte is hosting the Atlantic 10 Tournament which will be played at Charlotte’s Transamerica Field, November 5-8.

Charlotte had several great scoring chances in regulation. In the first half, Whitney Weinraub, and Sam Huecker had shots that were either wide or saved by Saint Louis’ keeper Hannah Perry.

In the second half, the 49ers tallied eight shots. Katie Davies, Jenna McKeon, Lacey McGowan, Kirby Stenard, Macky Wingo, Hailey Beam and Weinraub each recorded shots.

In the first overtime, Stenard had a great scoring chance but her shot in the 91st minute was stopped by Saint Louis’ keeper Hannah Perry. India Winford and Hailey Beam took shots in the first overtime. Then, Huecker finished the game with a shot that was stopped by Saint Louis’ Perry in the waning minutes of the game.

Charlotte finished the game with 15 shots. Huecker and Weinraub led the 49ers with three shots apiece. While, Beam and Stenard each tallied two shots apiece.

The 49ers finished game with an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Charlotte, who has earned a first-round bye in the A-10 Tournament, returns to action in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, Friday, November 6, which will be played at Charlotte’s Transamerica Field.
