November 9, 2009
STORRS, Conn. (November 8, 2009) – West Virginia women’s soccer player Bri Rodriguez earned a spot on the 2009 BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team this afternoon.
Rodriguez has been outstanding in the midfield as a true freshman, starting every single match of her rookie season. An Aurora, Ill., native, Rodriguez has contributed five points on one goal and three assists this season to earn BIG EAST all-Rookie team honors. She was a key player in WVU’s second half pressure against Marquette, being aggressive with the ball and linking West Virginia’s back line with its forwards.
The 24th-ranked Mountaineers are coming off a 1-0 semifinal loss to 10th-ranked Marquette in the BIG EAST semifinals. Both teams finished with 11 shots and neither team attempted a corner kick.
West Virginia owns a record of 9-6-6 and awaits its destination for the upcoming NCAA tournament field of 64 announced tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. on ESPNEWS. The Mountaineers look to extend their run of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, working on a 10th-straight berth.
