First Round of NCAA Women’s Play completed Friday

Friday night marked the bulk of the 1st round games in this year’s NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. While Stanford and BYU won opening round matches Thursday night to kick off the tournament, the remaining 30 matches were played Friday.
A handful of matches went to penalty kicks after 110 minutes, while Central Michigan’s 2-0 win over Purdue in South Bend would have to be considered the round’s biggest upset. One 2nd round match (BYU at Stanford) is played Saturday, with the other 15 matchups taking place Sunday.

At Stanford (Thursday)
No. 1 Stanford 2, Northern Arizona 0
Christen Press scored twice in the 2nd half, both on Kelley O’Hara assists as the undefeated Cardinal advanced despite game defending from the Lumberjacks and fantastic goalkeeping from NAU’s Tori Rocke.
Santa ClaraBYU 2, UC Santa Barbara 0
The Cougars won on an own goal and a strike from Alyssa Vander Veur.
2nd Round: BYU at Stanford, Saturday.
At Santa Clara
USC 0, Oklahoma State 0 (Oklahoma State advances on penalties 5-4)
TDS All-Rookie Team goalkeeper Adrianna Franch made 2 big saves and also converted the winning spot kick for the Cowgirls.

Anessa Patton scored a golden goal for the Broncos.
2nd Round: Oklahoma State vs. Santa Clara
At Wisconsin
No. 3 UCF 3, Wisconsin-Milwaukee 0
Aline Reis recorded the shutout while goals came from Courtney Whidden (2) and Alex Brandt.

Michele Dalton made a key save for the Badgers.

Connecticut 1, Boston University 0 (OT)
Brittany Taylor scored the 107th minute winner for the Huskies, with Ally Mancino recording the shutout in goal.

Amy Caldwell fired home the match winner for the Eagles.

The Pilots substituted liberally and cruised to victory behind goals from Danielle Foxhoven, Sophie Schmidt, Taylor Brooke and Kendall Johnson.

Kate Deines scored the winner and the Huskies defense prevented Ole Miss from registering a shot on goal.
