First round play in the 2009 NCAA Men’s Soccer play was completed Thursday night at campus venues across the country.
Sixteen teams advance to 2nd-round matchups against seeded team, with those matches taking place Sunday. There were no real upsets on the evening and most teams from major conferences advanced, although highly-ranked and once-beaten Monmouth of the Northeast Conference may have surprised some by defeating Big East power Connecticut on penalties after a scoreless draw through 110 minutes of play.
