NCAA Women’s Tournament quarterfinalists determined

Friday night saw seven of the eight 3rd round matches played in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament, with North Carolina and Maryland set to square off Saturday. Tight matches were the order of the evening.

Stanford Bracket

Boston College 1, Wisconsin 0
Brooke Knowlton scored a 62nd minute winner to put the Eagles into the quarterfinals. Jillian Mastroianni recorded the shutout in goal for BC.

Stanford 1, Santa Clara 0
Teresa Noyola scored on a long-range free kick and the Stanford defense and goalkeeper Kira Maker made it stand up as the Cardinal stayed perfect on the season.

UCLA Bracket

UCLA 3, Virginia 0

Sydney Leroux scored twice after Dea Cook put the Bruins up in the 3rd minute. Chante Sandiford produced a shutout in goal.

Portland 4, Virginia Tech 1

Danielle Foxhoven and Kendra Chandhoke each scored twice as the Pilots raced to an early lead and defeated the Hokies, setting up a heavyweight matchup with top-seeded UCLA. Julian Johnson tallied Virginia Tech’s lone goal.

North Carolina Bracket

Wake Forest 1, South Carolina 0

Bess Harrington scored a 90th minute winner on a Jill Hutchinson assist to lift the Demon Deacons. Amanda Barasha recorded the shutout in goal.

Maryland at North Carolina (Saturday at 1 p.m.)

Florida State Bracket


Florida State 2, Texas A&M(w) 1 (OT)

Jessica Price scored the golden goal with 2 minutes remaining in the overtime period. Rachel Shipley had put the Aggies up 1-0 early in the 2nd half, but Lauren Switzer scored the equalizer for the Seminoles to set up the extra session.

Notre Dame 1, Oregon State 0
Rose Augustin scored a 61st minute winner in support of a shutout in goal from Nikki Weiss.
