Men’s NCAA moves on to 3rd Round
Sixteen 2nd-round matches were played Sunday as the top seeds entered into the NCAA Men’s soccer tournament.
Big winners included Virginia, with Portland continuing a bit of a Cinderella run by beating NC State.

Akron 2, South Florida 0
Anthony Ampaipitakwong scored a pair of 1st half goals as the Zips maintained their perfect record. David Meves had the shutout in goal.
Stanford 1, UC Irvine 0
Daniel Leon scored the winner for the Cardinal.
Northwestern 3, Notre Dame 1
Jack Hillgard scored twice and Piero Bellizzi added 1, with Misha Rosenthal recording 11 saves for the Wildcats in goal. John Schaefer scored late for Notre Dame.
Tulsa 4, St. Louis(m) 3
Ashley McInnes scored an overtime winner to lift the Golden Hurricane into the3rd round. St. Louis(m) had rallied with a pair of 2nd half goals including James Dice’s 90th minute equalizer to send the match into overtime. Alex Sweetin scored twice for the Billikens, while Jose Parada, Blaine Gonsalves and Austin Neil scored for Tulsa.

Ohio State Bracket
North Carolina 2, Brown 0
Billy Schuler and Alex Dixon scored for the Tar Heels, with Brooks Haggerty picking up the shutout in goal.
Indiana 1, Butler 0

Karl Reddick’s 8th minute goal held up as TDS All-Rookie Team goalkeeper Justin Luthy earned a 3-save shutout for the Eagles to advance.
Drake 1, Ohio State 0 (OT)
Luke Gorczyca scored the 97th minute winner for Drake, with Michael Drozd securing the shutout in goal.
3rd Round Matches: Indiana at North Carolina; Drake at Boston College

Wake Forest Bracket
Wake Forest 2, UNC Wilmington 1
Austin da Luz and Anthony Arena scored for the Demon Deacons while Shawn Guderian struck late for the Seahawks.
Duke 2, Michigan State 1
Defenders Christian Ibeagha and Andrew Wenger scored for Duke, with Rubin Bega making it close at the end for the Spartans.
UC Santa Barbara 1, San Diego 0
Sam Hayden recorded the shutout in goal and David Walker scored a 1st-half winner for the Gauchos.
UCLA 2, Sacramento State 1
Chandler Hoffman scored a late winner for the Bruins after Max Alvarez had equalized for the Hornets. Kyle Nakazawa put UCLA up 1-0 in the 1st half.

Maryland 2, Penn State 1
Jason Herrick scored a late winner to lift the Terrapins. Billy Cortes had put Maryland up 1-0 in 1st half but Penn State’s Brian Forgue equalized in the 2nd.
Harvard 3, Monmouth 0
Richard Smith, Andre Akpan and Adam Rousmaniere scored for the Crimson as they ended Monmouth’s impressive season. Austin Harms recorded the shutout in goal for Harvard.
Portland 2, NC State 1
Drew Chrostek opened the scoring for the Pilots, but Akil DeFreitas scored a 2nd half equalizer for the Wolfpack. Ryan Luke scored the winner for Portland in the 62nd minute.
Virginia 5, Bucknell 0
Will Bates and Tony Tchani each scored twice, with Hunter Jumpe adding 1 in support of Diego Restrepo’s shutout for the Cavaliers.
3rd Round Matches: Maryland at Harvard; Portland at Virginia
