Sunday brought the 3rd round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament, with eight matches played to determine next weekend’s quarterfinalists in the event. Following is a brief summary of matches. You can read fuller match reports in our College Articles section.

North Carolina 1, Indiana 0
Alex Dixon scored a 27th minute winner for the Tar Heels, with Brooks Haggerty recording the shutout in goal.

Virginia 1, Portland 0

Diego Restrepo recorded another shutout in goal, while Ari Dimas scored the winner for the Cavaliers.

Maryland 2, Harvard 0
Casey Townsend and Billy Cortes scored for the Terrapins, with Zac MacMath earning the shutout in goal by registering 5 saves.

Tulsa 1, Northwestern 0
Andy Aguilar earned the shutout with 4 saves, while Austin Neil scored a 73rd minute winner for the Golden Hurricane.

Drake 6, Boston College 4
Tired of all the predictable 1-0 games? It was a wild one in Boston, but the Missouri Valley Conference’s Bulldogs advanced to the quarters. Karl Reddick and Mor Avi Hanan put the Eagles up 2-0 before Michael Noonan and Kevin Shrout struck for Drake to level the scored at 2-2. Charlie Rugg put BC up 3-2 but Garrett Webb and Luke Gorczyca scored for Drake to make it 4-3.

Kyle Bekker tied the score for BC in the 68th minute, but Gorczyca scored again for Drake and Matt Kuhn put the match away with an 82nd-minute goal.

Akron 2, Stanford 0
Teal Bunbury and Anthony Ampaipitakwong each scored for the Zips, while David Meves recorded a shutout in goal.

UCLA 2, UC Santa Barbara 1

After David Walker opened the scoring for the Gauchos, Fernando Monge equalized for UCLA. Ryan Hollingshead then put the Bruins up 2-1 at 36 minutes and they hung on for a narrow win.

Wake Forest 4, Duke 2

Zach Schilawski scored twice in the 1st half and Sam Redmond added another to put the Demon Deacons up over their ACC rivals 3-0 at the half. Cole Grossman scored for Duke in the 2nd half to make it 3-1. Austin da Luz stretched the lead for Jay Vidovich’s team to 4-1 with a 65th minute tally, but Ryan Finley scored two minutes later for Duke.

Quarterfinal Matches: Maryland at Virginia; Tulsa at Akron; Drake at North Carolina; Wake Forest at UCLA
