Notre Dame keeper Weiss has been perfect
September 7, 2010
This past week marked the beginning of men’s action, and TopDrawerSoccer.com was there to capture it Wednesday with our LIVE stream of Army vs. Marist.

In an exciting finish, Marist took a 2-1 victory over Army (see replay here). It was the first game in a very exciting LIVE schedule this season where we’ll bring you some of the top college matchups in the country.

Stay tuned!

Marquee Match: The billing turned out to be more exciting than the result, as the Akron men made a statement and ascended to the No. 1 ranking with a 3-0 shutout over previously No. 1 North Carolina. A couple of first-half goals, and a clean sheet by David Meves allowed the Zips to make a strong opening statement.

Beat down of the Week:
This week’s moment of silence is dedicated to the Francis Marion Patriots who endured a 9-0 beating at the hands of the Duke women. The Blue Devils matched a school record with their goal total and featured seven different scorers.

Most dramatic finish between two brainiac programs: Sophomore Brian Rogers delivered a goal in the 80th minute to give the Harvard men a 2-1 triumph over Stanford. It was a nice way to start the season for Harvard, and following the game the two prestigious programs discussed stem cell research and plotted world domination.

Clean sheet: Through four games, Notre Dame goalkeeper Nikki Weiss has yet to allow a goal. The senior keeper has 19 saves and has led the Fighting Irish to a 4-0 start. Her perfect streak might be a little difficult to maintain when Notre Dame meets UCLA this Friday. Bruins striker Sydney Leroux vs. Weiss will be a can’t miss matchup.

Free fallin’: The Washington State women began the season near our Top 20 but have moon-walked considerably after starting the year 2-4-0. Currently at No. 39, there is reason to think the Cougars could fade even further out of the picture before the competitive Pac-10 matches even begin.
