Akron men beat Wisconsin in preseason finale

Updated: August 30, 2009
Ā AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's soccer team wrapped up its exhibition schedule on a high note with a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin Saturday night at the National Soccer Festival in Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Junior midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong broke a 1-1 tie with a second-half goal off a free kick for the game-winner. With the victory, UA completed a perfect 2-0 preseason following last weekend's win over South Florida at Lee Jackson Field.

Akron jumped on top early thanks to a goal by sophomore Teal Bunbury, who has been impressive in the early going this fall. The forward was on the receiving end of a well-struck long ball by Kofi Sarkodie, ran past his defender and drove the ball home in the eighth minute.

Statistics were not available for this game.

The Zips will officially kick off the 2009 campaign next weekend when they head to the Tulsa Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. Akron will face SMU in the season-opener Friday night at 6 p.m. (EST) before taking on the host Golden Hurricane Sunday at 8:30 p.m. (EST).
