STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State flexed its offensive muscle Sunday afternoon at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex as the 21st-ranked Cowgirls topped Louisiana-Lafayette, 7-0, in front of 606 fans.

The win was OSU’s ninth in a row against a non-conference opponent on its home field as the Cowgirls improved to 2-1-0 on the season. Coach Colin Carmichael’s squad is 37-0-2 at home against non-Big 12 Conference competition since losing to Creighton on Oct. 6, 2000 in Stillwater.

“I’m obviously happy with the result and happy with the way we played,” Carmichael said. “Anytime you can put seven in the net, you’ve got to feel good about it.

“We look a lot more cohesive. Defensively, we’re looking pretty good, and offensively, we played much better. We understand we’ve got some tougher games coming up, and if we can play this well I’ll be happy.”

OSU put the game away early against the Ragin’ Cajuns, who fell to 0-3-1 on the season.

In the sixth minute, Annika Niemeier collected the rebound of her own blocked shot and sent a pass to Kasey Langdon in the box, where the senior forward converted her second goal of the season to put the Cowgirls up, 1-0.

Just over seven minutes later, it was Siera Strawser adding to OSU’s lead as she took a pass from Kyndall Treadwell and beat ULL goal keeper Lauren Berlingo to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage.

OSU added one more goal before intermission as freshman Megan Marchesano collected a loose ball during a scramble in front of the goal and blasted it into the back of the net for the Cowgirls’ third goal.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second half. Treadwell picked up her first goal of the season with a rocket from 20-yard outs that went off the hands of Berlingo and into the net, and in the 72nd minute, it was Marchesano adding her second goal of the match and team-leading third of the season to put OSU on top, 5-0.

“I’m surprised by Megan (Marchesano) as a freshman scoring three goals in the first three game, that’s pretty awesome,” Niemeier said. “She’s playing really good.”

Two more freshmen scored goals over the match’s final 10 minutes as Carson Michalowski and Andrea Carlson each collected the first goals of their collegiate careers.

Carlson’s goal was OSU’s seventh of the contest, which tied for the ninth most goals in a single game in Cowgirl history.

“Even against a weaker team like that, you have to play really good to score seven goals,” Niemeier said. “Our forwards did a great job of opening up space for the midfielders to go in.”

OSU returns to action with a pair of road games next week as they battle Utah State on Friday before traveling to Provo, Utah, to take on nationally ranked BYU on Monday.
