BOCA RATON, Fla. - Shawn Guderian notched his third goal of the week and Brock Duckworth made three saves for the shutout as UNC Wilmington topped Florida Atlantic, 2-0, on Friday at the FAU Soccer Complex.
The Seahawks remained perfect on the young season with a 2-0 mark following the road win. The Owls, meanwhile, fell to 0-1 as they opened a three-game homestand.
"We were able to battle through some tough conditions with the rain during the day and the game this evening," said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. "We scored twice in the first half and were able to get some guys onto the field for the first time this season and get some minutes under their belts."
Guderian, a sophomore who scored twice earlier in the week against Campbell, gave UNCW the lead in the sixth minute of the contest when he headed home a cross off the foot of sophomore Christian Davidson. It was Davidson's second assist on the season and Guderian's second game-winner of the campaign.
Junior Daniel Roberts doubled UNCW's lead in the 28th minute when he knocked home a rebound off a shot by junior Brian Harrison from 18-yards out.
Duckworth needed just three saves in posting his 11th career shutout and move into a tie for fourth all-time at UNCW.
The Seahawks conclude their swing through Florida on Friday when they visit Florida International for a 1 p.m. start in Miami.
