Stanford, Calif. - In a showdown between the Pac-10's elite, the third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team suffered just its second loss of the season on Sunday, as top-ranked Stanford kept its undefeated season in tact with a 2-0 victory over the Bruins before 2,400 fans at Cagan Stadium.

UCLA, which has dominated the conference the last three years, suffered its first loss in conference play since 2006. The Bruins were riding a 22-game Pac-10 winning streak heading into Sunday's contest.

"We had some good chances," said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. "It's tough to give up an own goal against such a quality opponent. I think it was tough for us emotionally to recover from that. But I think we played a good match. We just didn't capitalize on our scoring opportunities."

Both teams played scoreless soccer for the first 71 minutes of play Sunday, however the Cardinal (15-0; 4-0 Pac-10) got on the board at the 71:01 mark on an own goal following a blocked shot from Ali Riley.

Stanford would score again less than two minutes later, as Camille Levin headed in her second goal of the year off of a Riley cross at the 72:57 mark.

UCLA had a number of quality scoring chances throughout the match. Lauren Cheney nearly put the Bruins up 1-0 in the 68th minute, however her shot bounced off the post. Lauren Barnes then hit one off the underside of the crossbar in the 78th minute.

Both of UCLA's (12-2-1; 3-1 Pac-10) losses this season have come against No. 1-ranked teams, as North Carolina beat the Bruins in the season opener back in August. Bruin goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford did not play in that match, making Sunday's loss her first of the year.

UCLA returns home next week, hosting Oregon at Drake Stadium on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
