August 30, 2010
HARRISONBURG, Va., Aug. 27, 2010 -- St. John's scored a late goal to beat James Madison 1-0 in Friday night's opening round of the JMU/Comfort Inn Harrisonburg Invitational Women's Soccer Tournament.

In the day's first game, Villanova scored in the last five minutes to top Virginia Commonwealth 2-1.

St. John’s freshman Amy Marron’s (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) breakaway goal with 17:05 to play lifted the Red Storm (1-2-0) to its first win of the season.

Sophomore Runa Stefansdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Hamrahlio College) sent a ball ahead to Marron, who raced down the field with two defenders on her heels.  She hit a shot from the left side of the box into the right corner of the goal from eight yards out.

JMU held a 13-9 advantage on shots but a number of the Dukes’ attempts sailed just wide or just high of the net.

St. John’s junior goalkeeper Kristin Russell (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg Catholic) finished with five saves to earn the shutout.  JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) made three stops.

The loss evened JMU’s record at 1-1-0.
