UNC men beat Seton Hall

Updated: September 6, 2010
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sophomore Enzo MartinezĀ  provided more than enough offense for the No. 4 UNC men's soccer team Sunday afternoon as his pair of goals fueled a 4-1 win over visiting Seton Hall. Stephen McCarthy and Josh Rice also provided goals for the Tar Heels as they improved to 1-1-0 on the year.

The Tar Heels were looking to rebound from a tough season-opening loss to No.1 Akron on Friday and found an offensive outburst in the form of Enzo Martinez. The Rock Hill, S.C., native found the back of the net less than a half hour in. Outside back Brett King dribbled down the right flank and floated a ball over the Seton Hall backline that Martinez ran down and chipped over the goalkeeper to put Carolina in front.

The score would remain 1-0 going into halftime but it would not stay that way for very long. In a span of three minutes the score went from 1-0 to 3-1 as the team's offenses exploded.

Martinez finished off his brace with a pretty one-two combination with forward Alex Dixon. Martinez dribbled down the left side and found Dixon inside the box who dropped the ball right back to Martinez who laced a shot into the top right corner putting Carolina in front 2-0.

Less than two minutes later, Stephen McCarthy netted his first goal as a Tar Heel when he headed Kirk Urso's corner kick off a Pirate defender and into the goal for a 3-0 lead.

Carolina would be brought back down to earth rather quickly when Seton Hall's Brayan Martinez reduced the deficit to 3-1 when he slotted a ball past Scott Goodwin.

The Tar Heels would control possession from that point on before Josh Rice made it a 4-1 margin when Martinez found a cutting Rice who dribbled past a defender and beat the Pirate keeper with a shot to the lower right corner of the goal.
Carolina will return to action on Friday, Sept. 10 when the Tar Heels open Atlantic Coast Conference play just down the road against NC State at 7 p.m. in Raleigh.
