UC Irvine men beat Oakland

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 12 UC Irvine men's soccer team (4-0) defeated Oakland 2-0 Friday afternoon in the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament at the SDSU Sports Deck.
Junior Brett Berman (Westlake Village/Westlake HS) took a corner kick at the 43:43 mark and had the ball headed in by senior Corey Attaway (Chino HS) for Attaway’s third goal of the season giving UCI a 1-0 lead at the half. Junior Christian Hernandez took a corner kick in the 71st minute and Berman headed the ball to senior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS). Walker chipped the ball over the keeper who was out of place on the play putting UCI up 2-0.
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had eight saves for UCI while earning his fourth straight shutout to start the season. Keeper Mitch Hildebrandt had six saves for the Golden Grizzlies.
