UNC Wilmington men beat Central Florida

September 11, 2010
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Etienne Boulanger volleyed home a short pass early in the 10th minute as nationally-ranked UNC Wilmington tripped up high-scoring UCF, 1-0, in college soccer action Friday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks improved to 2-1 with the win in the UNCW/Courtyard by Marriott Classic. The Knights (2-1), meanwhile, dropped their first match of the season.

Boulanger was in the right place at the right time when he converted a quick pass from senior Daniel Roberts by launching his first goal of the season just inside the right post at the 9:09 mark. Roberts’ initial shot was blocked by a Winthrop defender, but he collected the loose ball and flicked a short pass to Boulanger on his right.

UCF held a 9-5 advantage in shots, but managed just one on goal as UNCW senior Brock Duckworth fashioned his second shutout of the season and 20th of his career.

The Knights entered the game with nine goals total in two wins over Jacksonville (5-0) and Florida Atlantic (4-0).
In the Classic opener, Winthrop trimmed Long Island, 3-0.

UCF and Long Island retake the field on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start. The Seahawks and Winthrop will play at 3:30 p.m.
