Boston College women beat Fairfield

Chestnut Hill, MA (Friday, September 10, 2010) – Senior forward Brooke Knowlton scored her first goal of the
season late in the second half to lead No. 5 Boston College past Fairfield, 1-0, in a non-conference match on Friday night at Lessing Field. The Eagles are now 5-0-1, while Fairfield is 3-2-0.

Knowlton broke a scoreless tie in the 52nd minute of play. Knowlton one-timed a rebound off a shot from junior Julia Bouchelle’s shot. It was Knowlton’s first goal of the season.

BC went up 2-0 in the 78th minute when the Victoria DiMartino beat a Stags defender to a ball sent in by Kristen
Mewis. DiMartino corralled the ball and placed it by a charging Fairfield goalkeeper, Kelly Boudreau (14 saves). It
was DiMartino’s seventh goal of the season.

The Eagles outshot Fairfield, 29-3 and held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles led 18-2 in shots at the half. Junior goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni picked up the shutout, her fourth this season, while making three saves.

Game Notes: Victoria DiMartino finished the week with four goals … Kristen Mewis extended her point-scoring
streak to four consecutive games. Mewis, who set up the second goal tonight, finished her week with one goal and three assists … The Eagles and Stags played in front of a new Fairfield record of 931 fans.
