Boston College men play Fairfield to draw

Sophomore midfielder Kyle Bekker recorded a game-high six shots while classmate Charlie Rugg and junior Amit Aburmad each registered three shots as No. 13 Boston College and Fairfield played to a 0-0 tie at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn.

After winning its first two games of the season, the Eagles have tied each of the last two opponents.  Fairfield played to a draw for the third time in five games.

Stags goalkeeper Michael O’Keeffe made five saves and the Stags were credited with a team save on a Bekker shot in the 58th minute to earn the shutout.

BC registered a 17-11 advantage in total shots in the game, including a 14-7 combined edge in the second half and overtime periods.  The Eagles registered six consecutive shots in the final 15:27 of regulation, including a Rugg shot that hit the crossbar in the 75th minute.

After Aburmad attempted the team’s seventh straight shot early in the first overtime period, Fairfield’s Matthew Uy connected for the Stags’ first shot in 23:15.  Teammate Adam Cowen later hit the post in the 99th minute.

Aburmad, defender Stefan Carter and Reddick each tallied shots in the second overtime period and the Eagles attempted three straight corner kicks before the final whistle.

Boston College attempted nine corner kicks after halftime and 10 in the game.  Fairfield attempted two corners.

Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Luthy registered three saves in 110 minutes to earn the shutout, his second of the young season.

Fairfield held a 4-3 edge in shots at the half.

Next, No. 13 Boston College will host Boston University on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Newton Campus Field.
