UC Irvine men beat UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The No. 9 UC Irvine men's soccer team (7-1) defeated UNLV 4-0 at the UNLV Rebel Classic at Johann Field.

Senior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) knocked in the rebound off his own shot to give the Anteaters a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. Senior Spencer Thompson (Ahwatukee, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) took on a defender on the right side and made it 2-0 in the 58th minute. Walker converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute to give the ‘Eaters a 3-0 lead. Junior Syd Tom (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua HS) scored his first career goal after an assist from Walker in the 70th minute to give UCI a 4-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had three saves as he earned his seventh shutout of the season. Keeper Ryan Harding had five saves for UNLV.

The Anteaters are outscoring opponents 21-2 this season and each of their seven victories have been shutouts.
 

The ‘Eaters open Big West play Wednesday as they host UC Riverside at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
