Missouri State men fall to Northwestern

October 4, 2010
EVANSTON, Ill. – The Missouri State men’s soccer team (3-5-1, 1-0-0) continued to struggle on the road with a 0-1 loss at Northwestern (4-4-1) on Sunday afternoon.

Northwestern got a goal in the 58th minute when Oliver Kupe forced a turnover at the top of the 18-yard box and beat Missouri State goalkeeper Alex Riggs from about six yards away.  Riggs managed seven saves in the match to keep the Bears close.

Paul Paradise led the Bears with four of the team’s eight shots.  He also took two of the three shots on goal.

The Wildcats are the fifth opponent of the Bears from last season’s NCAA Tournament.  Four of those matches have been on the road.  Missouri State is now 1-5-1 on the road this season with the lone win coming in conference play at Central Arkansas on September 25.

Missouri State will finish its longest road trip in years at Eastern Illinois on October 9 at 2:00 p.m.  The Bears will return home to begin a four-game home stand on Saturday, October 16, with a 7:00 p.m. match against Drake.
