FDU men lose to Monmouth

he Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team lost its second-straight Northeast Conference match as the Knights fell at 10th ranked Monmouth, 4-0, Friday afternoon in West Long Branch, NJ.  The Hawks scored a pair of goals in each half to cruise to the easy win.  With the victory, Monmouth improves to 8-1 (2-0 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 5-5 (1-2 NEC) overall.

In just a little over four minutes into the match, Monmouth’s Anthony Vaquez found the back of the net off of a volley on RJ Allen’s free quick to go up 1-0.

Less than three minutes later, Cesar Blacido found Ryan Kinne, who headed it in, to put the Hawks up, 2-0, which would be the score at halftime.

Monmouth outshot the Knights, 10-3, over the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Ryan Clarke and Kinne each scored unassisted goals in the 56th and 62nd minutes to give Monmouth a commanding 4-0 advantage and what would result in the final outcome.

For the game, the Hawks outshot the Knights, 13-5.  Fairleigh Dickinson was able to get three shots on goal.  Freshman Jacob Lissek took the loss in net for the Knights and made one save, while Bryan Meredith made three saves for the Hawks.

The Knights return to action on Sunday, October 10, as they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to take on Mount St. Mary’s in a Northeast Conference tilt.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
