Northwestern women lose to Central Arkansas

Updated: October 18, 2010
CONWAY, Ark. – Northwestern State took a step back in its bid to qualify for the postseason Southland Conference soccer tournament after falling 1-0 to Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Lady Demons to 6-10 overall, but more important, they fell to 1-4 in league play and now sit in ninth place in the conference standings.  UCA improved to 5-7-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.

The top six teams advance to next month’s conference tournament.  NSU will host sixth place Lamar at 7 on Friday followed by a 2 o’clock game against seventh place McNeese State on Sunday in two pivotal contests.

UCA, despite being outshot by the Lady Demons by an 18-3 margin, made good on its only shot on-goal of the afternoon when Julie Foerster scored from 35 yards out off a free kick in the 49th minute.

The Lady Demons, which had five shots on-goal, had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 86th minute when a header by Ashlee Savona was heading toward the back post but UCA defender Sarah Correll saved it from going into the net.

NSU goalkeeper Christian Marks took the loss in the net after she played just under 67 minutes of the game.  Jessica Danku closed out the game and did not face a shot.
