TAMPA (Oct. 23, 2010) – The University of Louisville men’s soccer team got a game winning goal from Nick Deleon just over a minute into the second sudden death overtime to hand the University of South Florida a 2-1 loss in front of 1,286 at the USF Soccer Stadium.
The Cardinals (12-0-2, 7-0-0 BIG EAST), who are ranked No. 2 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and No. 5 in the Soccer America Top 25, got the scoring started with an unassisted goal by Kenny Walker in the 30th minute on a low liner that skipped past Bulls’ goalkeeper Jeff Attinella.
USF (8-3-4, 3-2-2 BIG EAST), also ranked in the NSCAA and Soccer America polls at No. 19 in each, seemingly got on the board with 23 minutes left in regulation when Aubrey Perry lofted a shot towards the goal just behind Louisville keeper Andre Boudreaux, who misplayed the ball. The ball initially looked like it crossed th4e goal line however the score was waved off.
The Bulls would eventually knot up the score in the 71st minute of play when T.J. Roehn took a pass from Christopher Waugh and buried his first career goal in to the back of the net.
The Bulls will close out their 2010 regular season home slate on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. when they face Rutgers on Senior Night. USF will then travel to the Big Apple where it will close out the regular season against St. John’s on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
