Fairleigh Dickinson men beat Quinnipiac

Updated: October 25, 2010
The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team won its third straight match with its third straight shutout as they defeated Quinnipiac on the road in overtime, 1-0, in a Northeast Conference match in Hamden, CT.  Sophomore Dominic Reinold scored on a throw-in from fellow classmate Jeffrey Barrenechea in the 96th minute to give the Knights the victory.  With the victory, the Knights improve to 8-6-1 (4-3-1 NEC) on the season, while Quinnipiac falls to 3-9-1 overall.

Over the first 45 minutes of action, the Bobcats outshot the Knights, 8-7, while both goalkeepers made three saves.

In the second half, the Bobcats outshot the Knights, 10-4, including four shots on goal that were turned away by freshman goalkeeper Jacob Lissek.  The Knights were unable to put any shots on goal, but their defense played well enough to move the game to overtime.

Six minutes into overtime, Reinhold found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season and his second goal in as many games, both game winners.

Lissek recorded his third-straight shutout and fourth of the season.  He made eight saves in goal for the Knights.  Josh LaValle made three saves for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats outshot the Knights, 19-12.

“It was a really hard-fought battle against a very solid and well-coached Quinnipiac team,” said Head Coach Seth Roland.  “We competed in a focused and intent manor from the opening whistle.  It took a great throw-in from Jeffrey to Dominic to beat their defense and to slip the ball by their goalie for an inspiring 1-0 win.”

“Jacob Lissek was very sharp in the goal and helped us earn the shutout.”

The Knights return to action on Friday, October 29, as they play the final game of three-straight Northeast Conference road matches as they travel to Smithfield, RI to take on Bryant.  Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
