Washington State women lose to UCLA
November 1, 2010
LOS ANGELES – Lauren Barnes and Jenna Richmond each scored a goal and No. 22 UCLA defeated Washington State 2-0 in Pacific-10 Conference women’s soccer, Sunday.
Barnes gave the Bruins (10-7-1, 3-4-0 Pac-10) a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a shot from the top of the box that beat Washington State (6-13-0, 1-7-0 Pac-10) goalkeeper Ariana Byrd. Richmond’s goal came in the 60th minute on header to the left corner of the net.
“Credit UCLA, it was Senior Day and with all the emotion that comes with that,” WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. “We created a couple of half chances and had some small windows of opportunity that we were unable to finish.”
The Cougars’ best chance to score came in the 79th minute when senior forward Emma Stolz fired a shot that hit the crossbar. Washington State limited UCLA to five shots on goal while putting three shots on frame.
Washington State will conclude its season with a 1:30 p.m. match, Friday, Nov. 5 in Pullman against Washington.
