San Diego women beat LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Junior striker Stephanie Och’s goal in the 95th minute of action lifted the University of San Diego women’s soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 West Coast Conference overtime win over Loyola Marymount University Friday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams.
 
With the overtime period just underway, San Diego turned to its leading scorer, and she delivered in ah huge way.  Ochs took the ball down the right side of the field all lone, then weaved her way through the Lions defense and fired off a laser strike to the back post and into the net to give USD the victory.
 
With the win, the Toreros finish the regular season with an 11-7-2 overall record, a 4-3-0 mark in the WCC and keep their NCAA Tournament bid alive.  With the loss, the Lions finish the season with a 10-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the WCC.
 
After the two teams battled to a scoreless first half, San Diego was able to strike first. Ochs took the ball down the right side and weaved her way through a few defenders, then sent a cross to Housley, who was streaking in, and she hit a one-timer past the LMU ‘keeper to give San Diego the early 1-0 advantage at the 48:14 mark.
 
The Lions then evened the score in 55th minute of action, as Etajha Glimer was able to hit a one-timer off a cross from both Darien Pyka and Cori McGovern that found its way into the back of the net to force an overtime period.
 
The Toreros will now await Monday’s NCAA selection show on ESPNU to learn if they have indeed earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
