UCLA men beat San Diego State

Updated: November 14, 2010
The No. 9/10 UCLA men's soccer team wrapped up regular season play with a 3-1 victory at San Diego State on Saturday afternoon. Andy Rose, Chandler Hoffman and Reed Williams scored for the Bruins, and goalkeeper Brian Rowe made seven saves, including one on a penalty kick late in the game.

The Bruins got on the board quickly, netting a penalty kick goal by Andy Rose, his first of the year, at the 6:10 mark. Hoffman made it 2-0 at 60:44 with his third goal in as many games. He was assisted on the play by Eder Arreola and Victor Chavez. The Aztecs cut the lead in half at 71:02 on a goal by Miles Byass, but Williams added an insurance goal at 78:57 to provide the final margin of victory. Rowe made five of his seven saves on the day in the second half, including a stop of a Raymundo Reza penalty kick in the 87th minute.

With the victory, UCLA improves its overall record to 14-4-1 and 8-2-0 in the Pac-10. The 14 regular season wins and eight conference victories are the most by a UCLA team since 2003, when the Bruins ended regular season play with 18 wins, 10 in Pac-10 play. UCLA goes into the postseason having won six of its last seven games, four via shutout. San Diego State ends the regular season with a 10-7-2 overall mark.

The Bruins will await NCAA selection on Monday, Nov. 15. The NCAA selection show will air on ESPN at 1:30 pm PT.
