ESP Match 6: Injury Overshadows Result

DENVER - Louisville-area midfielder Lepekola Seetane scored a nicely-worked goal in the early going here, and the tally held up for Team Caligiuri in a 1-0 win over Team Dos Santos.Image

The result and even the match itself were overshadowed however by a frightening injury to Team Dos Santos central defender Sean Cunningham, who appeared to fracture his lower leg when he landed awkwardly after contesting a header in the 1st half. Cunningham, a talented player for Detroit-area club Vardar, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

The match continued but the incident appeared to take some steam out of the game. Our best wishes go out to Sean for a quick recovery.

Team Dos Santos right back Josh Sylva was very active in defensive coverage and put in some nice tackles. Christian Alvarado was dangerous as a 2nd half substitute and just missed with a shot from 20 yards after stealing the ball in the forward 3rd.

For Team Caligiuri, Nolan McKeever was good again in the back line, with Harrison Petts again excelling, this time at right back. Petts hit a splendid cross in the 2nd half that Nick Grigoriev headed off the crossbar. Grigoriev, from FC San Diego, works very hard off the ball and has a habit of being in a good position.
