Seeds bring a first-round bye in the 48-team tournament, with holders hosting a 2nd-round match Tuesday Nov. 25 against winners of first-round tilts. Following Wake Forest, top seeds went to ACC Tournament Champions Maryland, Big East regular-season winner St. John's and Big Ten regular season and tournament winner Michigan State.

Among interesting first-round matchups include a Boston crosstown showdown between Harvard and Massachusetts, an intra-Chicago battle between Northwestern and Loyola-Chicago and a Northern Cal contest between California and San Francisco.

Among teams who will be particularly disappointed at being left out of the brackets are Wisconsin and Syracuse.
