The TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Teams of the Week is back with two more winners after productive outings last week. The theme this week is that of the underdog, as a girls unit in Oklahoma upset the top team in the state, while a No. 4 seed in the Texas boys 4A playoff bracket is cutting through opponents early in the postseason.

Here’s a look at this week’s honorees. A reminder that anyone can nominate a boys and/or girls team for consideration by noon CT each Monday. Email the team’s information from the previous week to highschool@topdrawersoccer.com.

Girls: Union High School (Tulsa, Okla.)

Bishop Kelley is a girls soccer institution in Oklahoma, so it was no surprise that the reigning Class 6A state champs, who’ve won 14 of the last 15 state titles spanning from Class 4A to 6A since 2000. So it goes without saying that when Union and Bishop Kelley locked horns last week, Bishop Kelley could’ve been considered the favorites.

Instead, state No. 3 Union jumped all over No. 1 Bishop Kelley, running up a 4-1 lead before holding on late for a 4-3 victory. Union’s Haylee Lewis scored twice in a four-goal explosion in the first half for Union, which held a hearty lead until talented Bishop Kelley made a late run. Maggie Ertl’s goal with nearly three minutes left in the game chopped the lead down to one goal, but Union held on for the seismic win to move its record to 4-0-0 so far.

Boys: Tomball High School (Tomball, Texas)

The Texas high school playoffs fired up in earnest last week, and 4A boys - the second-highest classification in the state for soccer - got through their first two rounds of play. In Texas, the system allows four teams from each district into the playoffs, meaning the seeding system matches up No. 1 seeds (district winners) with No. 4 seeds (the last team to squeak into the playoffs from another district) in first round pairings. Understandably, No. 4 seeds didn’t fare particularly well last week.

Tomball was not among the wreckage. The 4A side from just outside Houston managed to upset District 39-4A champs Huntsville 2-0 in the first round just days after Huntsville won its third consecutive district title. Later in the week, Tomball whipped Lumberton, a third-place district finisher, 4-1 to capture an area round title and move into the third round of the playoffs. This is where things get interesting - Tomball faces crosstown rival Tomball Memorial in the regional quarterfinals this week.

Honorable mention

Girls: George Washington High School (Guam); Memorial High School (Houston, Texas)

Boys: Langham Creek High School (Houston, Texas); Duncanville High School (Duncanville, Texas)
