FAB 50 High School Soccer Team Rankings

The fall season includes the following states: Colorado, Connecticut, D.C., Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia (private), West Virginia, Wisconsin.

The rankings are compiled by high school rankings editor Sheldon Shealer.

Seven players scored as St. Benedict's opened the season with a 7-0 thrashing of Beacon (N.Y.), the defending PSAL champion. The Gray Bees then traveled to Pennsylvania to take on defending state champ Summit Country Day (Ohio) and pulled out a 2-1 victory. The result ended Summit Country Day's 20-match win streak.

St. Ignatius netted seven second-half goals to turn a 2-1 halftime lead into a 9-1 rout of Solon in the team's only outing last week. Among the goal scorers were Xavier commit Steven Milhoan, Brown commit Johne Vrablic and freshman Matt McLaughlin, son of coach Mike McLaughlin.

Scotch Plains opens regular season play against Plainfield on Thursday (Sept. 8).
4 (4) Rockhurst Jesuit Kansas City, MO 4-0-0
Keaton Schieffer scored in overtime to lift Rockhurst over Shawnee Mission West 1-0 to remain perfect on the season. Earlier in the week, four players scored, including Schieffer, in the team's 4-0 victory over Liberty.

Juniors Ben Stitz and Nick Richardson staked Archbishop Curley to a 2-0 lead en route to a 2-1 win over McDonogh in a battle of Baltimore powers and a rematch of last year's MIAA A final.

In a meeting between defending state champions, nothing was settled as Chaminade and Walt Whitman played to a 2-2 draw. Alec Brutschin and Matt Vowinkel scored for Chaminade, the defending Catholic school state champion. Chaminade followed up that result with a victory over Hicksville.

Julien Denis had a goal in each match as Olathe East pinned the first losses of the year on former SIMA FAB 50-ranked Rock Bridge (Mo.) and Park Hill South (Mo.).

Morton rolled to the Red Devil Cup title without allowing a goal and winning three matches by five or more goals. Morton has earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Pepsi Showdown, a multi-week event featuring many of the state's top programs.

Alex Spratte had three goals and one assist and Mohamad Miri scored a goal in each outing last week as Canton defeated Walled Lake Northern and Grand Blanc.

Osvaldo Sanchez and Nicholas Cheung each had two goals and one assist last week as Marquette went 2-0-1, shutting out all three opponents. It was the scoreless tie with unranked Peoria Notre Dame, however, that caused Marquette to slide in this week's SIMA FAB 50.

Luke DeLeo scored twice as Trinity handled Seneca 5-0 in the team's only outing last week. Trinity faces Covington Catholic on Saturday in a rematch of a state quarterfinal match from last season, won by Covington Catholic on the way to a state title.
