FAB 50 High School Soccer Team Rankings

Rank School Record
1 Langley McLean, VA 0-0-0
Two years ago, Langley won the Virginia 6A state title and finished among the national elite led by a pair of sophomores. Following that season, both players went abroad - defender Sam Golan to Brighton in England where he played in the Barclay's U18 Premier League and Jacob Labovitz to Spain to train at Marbella United. Both are back at Langley this spring and this team, coming off a 14-2-3 season without them, are primed for another serious title run. Golan, who recently was called into the U.S. Under-19 national camp, has committed to William & Mary.
2 Wando Mt. Pleasant, SC 0-0-0
On paper, Wando has been dynamic the past few years. However, securing the state title has been a bit more difficult. Many coaches in the know in South Carolina say Wando and River Bluff are clearly above the rest to start the year. The Warriors bring back Zach Aversano (Wofford), Billy Brittelli (College of Charleston) and second-leading scorer from last year Charlie Marino. In addition, the team picks up a pair of SC Battery Academy players who should be make an immediate impact. Overall, the roster features 22 players who competed in State Cup finals last year, including nine from the Cup champ that also won a Disney Showcase title.
3 McCallie School Chattanooga, TN 0-0-0
McCallie brings back 10 starters from a team that spent a large part of the season in the SIMA FAB 50 Top 10 until an upset loss in the state semifinals. Northwestern commit Drew Viscomi is the featured player, but the team is loaded with college-bound talent. Defenders Logan Russell and Jonah Bryan, keeper Emerson Brock and midfielders Thomas Priest and Noah Cingilli are all in the process of deciding between Division I and II programs.
4 Oak Mountain Birmingham, AL 0-0-0
Last year's spring national champions remain the favorite in Alabama, but let's face it, another undefeated season would be a difficult task. Alabama teams play upwards of 30 matches, and many of the state's top teams go head to head two or three times during the season -- making undefeated highly improbable. Still, Oak Mountain, led by Dartmouth-bound Kennedy Davis, remains the favorite in Alabama.
5 Creighton Prep Omaha, NE 0-0-0
Creighton Prep went 20-2 last year and returns nearly every starter. Defender Ed Gordon and keeper Matt Smith recently signed with Nebraska-Omaha, highlighting the list of returnees.
6 River Bluff Lexington, SC 0-0-0
College of Charleston signee Marcelo Malpartida highlights the lineup for defending state champion River Bluff, which is coming off a 24-1 season.
7 Edmond North Edmond, OK 0-0-0
Edmond North returns seven starters from last year's state championship team, led by junior Daryl Dike and Northeastern signee Sean Grilley. Edmond North faces the Arkansas preseason No. 1 team in Springdale and travels to the Tournament of Champions in Georgia, events that will help shape the spring national rankings.
8 Oakton Vienna, VA 0-0-0
Oakton has evolved into one of the traditional Northern Virginia powers and is coming off a 15-1-1 season. Despite not having some of the big-name players as their highly ranked neighbors, Oakton teams are deep, solid and get results. Keeper Jonny Silver is returning following an All-Met season in 2016. Oakton will compete in the Smoky Mountain Cup in Tennessee this spring, a rare out-of-state appearance for a Northern Virginia program.
9 Viewmont Bountiful, UT 0-0-0
With three all-state returnees highlighting the starting lineup, Utah's large-school defending state champion is again a preseason favorite. Drake Cook, Marshall Johnson and Tyler Trump were all-state picks last year.
10 Cosby Midlothian, VA 0-0-0
Four underclassmen were named to the Richmond Dispatch All-Metro team last spring, and three of them play at Cosby. With projected returners Damani Osei, Seve Velasco and Peter King, Cosby seems poised for a state title run following last year's 15-1-2 season.
11 Chattahoochee Johns Creek, GA 0-0-0
Chattahoochee could return as many as 11 of 16 varsity players from from last year's 18-1 season. The Cougars kick off regular season play against defending state champion Parkview in a match that will quickly sort out the top of the rankings.
12 Washington-Liberty Arlington, VA 0-0-0
Washington-Lee is the 6A defending state champion, but gone are the two key players who made it happen. Still, coaches in Northern Virginia see this team reloading and remaining in the mix for the 6A North title.
13 Kentwood Covington, WA 0-0-0
Kentwood fell victim of Wenatchee in what proved to be a wild Class 4A playoff run last year. Wenatchee finished 15-8 and state champions after knocking off the state's No. 2, 3 and 4 teams in succession in the playoffs. Kentwood, with all-state returnee Manav Gill leading the way, seems best positioned for a state title run following last year's 15-2 showing.
14 Parkview Lilburn, GA 0-0-0
Parkview graduated five starters and lost five more to the newly former Atlanta United Development Academy team. Still, the Panthers are among the state favorites and a season-opening match with Chattahoochee will quickly determine the state's top-ranked team.
15 Dalton Dalton, GA 0-0-0
Dalton's dynasty took a knock last year with an upset loss to Greenbrier, but the team returns standout forward Churrui Huitanda and defender Freedy Mendoza, who were both first-team all-area picks in 2016.
16 Battlefield Haymarket, VA 0-0-0
Led by George Mason commit Ian Mateer, Battlefield is projected as a district and region frontrunner in 2017 following an 18-2-1 showing last year.
17 McIntosh Peachtree City, GA 0-0-0
With the projected return of midfielders Jake Donaldson and Takuma Suzuki, McIntosh again as the look of a Georgia state title contender.
18 Nation Ford Fort Mill, SC 0-0-0
Nation Ford has been a bit of a sleeping giant, and 2017 might finally be a breakthrough season. Four players signed with colleges last week, led by Michael Smith with Winthrop. Other signees include Blake Baker, Will Martin and Brad Young, and with all back Nation Ford is likely to build on a 19-4 showing from last year.
19 West Des Moines Valley West Des Moines, IA 0-0-0
Valley returns seven starters from last year's 22-1, state title-winning team, led by Drake signee Ryan Johnston. Other key returners are Aaron Williams, Julius Cooper and Jordy Triana. On April 1, Valley and Creighton Prep (Neb.) clash in a match that likely will sort out the regional rankings between the states as well as shape part of the SIMA FAB 50.
20 Wesleyan School Norcross, GA 0-0-0
Wesleyan School had a dream season in 2016, going 22-0-1. Another undefeated season might be a stretch, but with six starters returning anything is possible for this Georgia small school power.
21 Bearden Knoxville, TN 0-0-0
Bearden won the Tennessee Class AAA title last year and graduated its top player, however, much of the supporting cast returns leaving this team again a favorite among the public schools.
22 Riverwood Sandy Springs, GA 0-0-0
Riverwood was a bit of a postseason surprise last year, winning the Class AAAAA state title. Along the way, Riverwood knocked out McIntosh and Northgate. Local coaches again expect Riverwood to be in the state title mix.
23 Mill Creek Hoschton, GA 0-0-0
Mill Creek returns seven starters from last year's highly successful team that was upset early in the postseason. The Hawks went 15-3 last season and could be a title favorite in 2017.
24 Iowa City West Iowa City, IA 0-0-0
Iowa City West returns five starters from last year's 17-2 team and projects as serious state title challenger to West Des Moines Valley this season.
25 Christian Brothers Memphis, TN 0-0-0
