The Wenger era lives on.

As Duke’s Andrew Wenger moves on to MLS, after becoming the first overall pick of last month’s MLS Draft, his mini version is set to join the college ranks.

PA Classics veteran Jonathan Wenger signed to play with Elon next season, keeping the family name firmly rooted in the NCAA.

Jonathan has been a strong presence and captain for his club team and the Elon Phoenix can use an injection of youth after finishing near the bottom of the Southern Conference last season.

Of course, big brother Andrew set the college stage ablaze as the nation’s top scorer in 2011 but we’re not expecting the same outburst from Jonathan, particularly in his freshman season. He’s a different kind of player, though a Wenger nonetheless.

Other recent boys’ signings include:

Patrick Figgie (Beachside SC) has signed to Bucknell for the 2012 season.

Alexander Basiakos (Club Ohio) has signed with Wright State for the 2012 season

Jacob Speed (Dallas Texans) has signed with Kentucky for the 2012 season.

Patrick Schulz (Sockers FC) has signed with Marquette for the 2012 season.

Robert Soto (Match Fit Academy) has signed to Long Island for the 2012 season.

Jacob Harlan (West Georgia F.C.) has signed to USC Upstate for the 2012 season.

Dylan West (CDA) has signed with San Jose State for the 2012 season.

Eric DeJulio (Sporting Kansas City) has signed with Creighton for the 2012 season.
