U17 WNT Heads to OTC for Qualifying prep

March 21, 2012

The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will come together for a training camp from April 1-10 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., as head coach Albertin Montoya has called up 24 players to what is the final event before the team enters CONCACAF Qualifying for the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The qualifying tournament will be held in Guatemala from May 2-12 and will send three countries to the third FIFA World Cup for U-17 women to be held in Azerbaijan from Sept. 22-Oct. 13. Montoya will choose a roster of 20 players to travel to Guatemala, where the USA will face Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the Bahamas in group play.

The young Americans have already earned some quality results this year, defeating the U-17 team from Germany twice and downing U-19 squads from France and the Netherlands during an event in La Manga, Spain, early this month, where the U.S. U-17s also drew the England U-19s 1-1.

The U-17s will play three matches during the camp, two against college teams and one against the China Under-20 Women’s National Team, which will take place at the OTC on April 9 at 4 p.m. PT.
