Mauricio Ingrassia doesn’t want to leave prospective student-athletes guessing as to what the program at Long Beach State is like.

That’s why his Long Beach State Soccer Academy is tailored to mirror the beginning weeks of season training for the 49ers.

Women's college soccer players play.
LB State campers enjoy the California sunshine.
“We do it just like the mini double day camp, the way we do our first couple of weeks of training at Long Beach State for the season,” Ingrassia said. “We do technical training in the morning, tactical in the afternoon and some games at night.”

The four-day, three night event includes a residential component and allows campers to get a taste of life on the Southern California campus, just a couple of miles from the Pacific Ocean.

The Premier Camp, which began Monday, July 27, is capped at around 50 girls so that Ingrassia and his staff can take a good look at the players in a strong competitive environment.

“We’ll have some of our incoming freshmen in, some of our 2010 commitments and some other kids who want us to take a look at them. It’s a wide range and the level of play is pretty high,” he said. “It helps us identify those kids with the attributes that we are looking for, and it helps them to get information on us and to see what we’re like up close. I love the whole camp experience.”

Current 49ers players serve as camp counselors, helping complete the authenticity of the camp experience as a look at regular Long Beach State training. Campers will get a chance to see the campus and talk with student-athletes about college life and the soccer program.

Ingrassia said the program will likely offer more camp opportunities in the future to go with the Premier camp and a recently-concluded younger girls (9-13) residential camp. Youth day camps are also part of the Long Beach State offering.
