U.S. Soccer legend Harry Keough dies

Quick history lesson:

U.S. Soccer’s “do you believe in miracles!?” moment came in 1950 when the Americans shocked England with a World Cup upset victory. It’s been called one of the most improbable wins of all-time.

One of its linchpins, legendary U.S. defender Harry Keough, died on Tuesday at the age of 84. Here’s a nice obituary piece from the Washington Times on Keough whose contributions included coaching the Saint Louis men’s program to five national championships.

But he’ll mostly be remembered for that famous 1950 win (a victory that was kind of like this unforgettable triumph … only times 10), a soccer moment that will live on even as Keough will not.
