The news just keeps getting worse.

Indian soccer player D. Venkatesh has reportedly died after collapsing on the field while playing for A division club Bangalore Mars.

The cause of death is being reported as a cardiac arrest. He was 27.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) said in a statement on its website:

“Venkatesh came on as a substitute in the second half for his club against South Western Railway in a Bangalore District Football Association ‘A’ Division match and collapsed during the back end of the match.”

This comes less than a week after Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the field and is currently in intensive care.
