With the landscape of its conference shifting, the Big East announced that commissioner John Marinatto has resigned.
Marinatto released the following statement:
“I have decided to step down as Commissioner of the BIG EAST Conference and formally advised our Board of Directors. Our recent expansion efforts have stabilized the conference for the long term. As a result, I felt this was the right time to step aside and to let someone else lead us through the next chapter of our evolution.”
Marinatto had been commissioner since 2009 and helped set into motion critical changes for the conference.
Syracuse and Pittsburgh could also be going elsewhere in 2013.
In the meantime, the Big East may want to find a new leader to guide them through this conference-altering period.
