Freddy Adu heading to Brazil, a welcome change for all

Once the youngest player MLS had ever seen, Freddy Adu is making another move around the world.

Adu, who famously began his career at 14 and has played in Portugal, France, Turkey, Greece and the U.S., is now preparing to take his chances in the home of the next World Cup.

Brazil’s Bahia team could stylistically prepare Adu for another shot at the U.S. Men’s national team, especially since his location would set him up right behind the scenes in Brazil, just in time for the 2014 Cup.

As a Brazilian, I can see how the atmosphere the league presents can spark inspiration for Adu and might be the crucial push he needs to get back on the team in time for the tournament.

The league has recently become financially stable from all the growth that Brazil has seen in regards to the tournament and its ability to keep high level players like Ronaldinho, Pato and Neymar. This will only make Adu grow and force him to regain his confidence.

The transfer will see nothing but good news; not only would the move be taking Adu from the bench and bad favor of Philadelphia Union coach John Hackworth, but would also be clearing up salary space for the team. Financially sustained, and in one of the hottest vacation spots in Brazil, the transfer puts Adu in a win-win situation himself.

Adu had been offered a range of transfer options from South Korea, to Australia, to Mexico, but since Bahia surfaced, the falling star has began to look at the leading soccer nation for inspiration.

Freddy is planning on traveling there next week as he attempts to drastically change his career and move further from his MLS debut on April 3, 2004.

  • I really hope it works out for him, but at this point i think he’s way behind at making a difference for the national squad.
