In the TDS offices, we’re calling this week’s College GOTW spread “The Silly Slate” because of the insanity on offer here. Actually, we are not. That phrase was never uttered. But it could be! Because these are very good goals that deserve your immediate attention.
This week’s contestants include Florida’s Liz Slattery (literal last second 2OT goal FTW), Dartmouth’s Justin Donawa (cruise missile FTW), and San Diego State’s Travis Nicklaw (bending smasher FTW). If you hadn’t picked up on this week’s theme, there are many wins going around.
First to the plate is Slattery and the Florida women, who are currently fighting toward the postseason in the midst of a season that could well lead them to the College Cup. If it does, this insane momentum-generating goal from Liz Slattery could be a defining moment. The Gators were locked in a 1-1 battle with South Carolina that seemed destined for draw-town when Slattery lobbed the keeper with literally zeroes on the clock for the highly improbable 2-1 win. Shaves don’t get any closer than this. Brilliant.
Next we have Justin Donawa and Dartmouth, which is off to a 4-0 start in the Ivy League and is well on its way to defending its 2014 Ivy League title. Donawa is no stranger to TDS. He’s been our High School Player of the Week before, and he made his full Bermudan national team debut earlier this year (and has two goals already to boot). Needless to say, Dartmouth was happy to have his commitment. Last week, Donawa let loose this insane, dancing golazo from deep en route to a 2-1 win over Columbia. Well deserved, based on this silliness.

Finally, it’s Pac-12 time, and probably not from the team you’re expecting. San Diego State has had a relatively rough go of it in the Pac-12 the last two years, and who could blame them? The league is deep and talented at the top, and the Aztecs have been doing well to push the league’s big boys to the brink a number of times. Last week, it looked like the Aztecs would get something against Cal, but a 2OT loss still couldn’t smudge away this insane goal from Travis Nicklaw. Watch this swerve from directly in the keeper’s line to into the upper 90. Impossible ask to save this. No chance.

OK folks, your time to shine. Pick a winner, why don’t you? You’ve got until noon (PT) to choose. Let’s have it out.
UPDATE: Congrats to San Diego State’s Travis Nicklaw, whose blast won the vote this week with 45% favor. We’ll see you next week.
