A Messi debate

Written by Administrator

Lionel Messi has once again been awarded the 2011 FIFA player of the year. The Barcelona and Argentina player has now won the award three times. Messi was able to beat out team-mate Xavi Hernandez and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. This year alone, the 24 year old has won the Spanish Liga title, UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

“I want to thank my Barcelona and Argentina teammates, without them this would have been impossible. But most of all, I want to share the award with Xavi: you deserve this as much as I do.”

The fact that Messi is only 24 makes him that much more appealing. He is already being considered by many as the best player to ever play the game. This opinion will put to the test once the Champions League round of 16 begin in February.

UK’s main satellite pay-TV company Sky Sports has shown live Premier League football games since the league was founded in 1992.  Sky Sport’s current package will be finished by the end of the 2012 EPL season. Once offers for rights to the 2013-2016 seasons are accepted, there will be many new suitors hoping to acquire the exclusive rights to air EPL games. One of the most influential bidders for the rights is Apple. The technology giant is showing interest in joining the battle for the TV rights, along with ESPN and Al-Jazeera.

The content provided by the Premier League would allow Apple to boost sales of its diverse products as well as establish Apple TV in the UK market.  Apple TV allows users to stream live video onto their TV screens. The company already offers TV subscriptions to the NBA, MLB, and NHL. Unfortunately for Apple there is not much demand for the NHL in England. In order to broaden its market attractiveness Apple understands that rights to the Premier League would allow for more success than any of the American sports.

Now, what’s really cool about this deal is that if Apple were to be successful in their acquisition of Premier League games it could potentially allow subscribers to watch games live on their iPads and iPhones also. I’m going to go ahead and say that this is a good thing.

The Stretcher Incident

Written by Administrator

Things got a bit out of hand during a Brazilian under-18 cup competition. Apparently the medical physician holding the stretcher wasn’t too sure how to go about lifting the stretcher. This inevitably leads to about 4 very funny replays from different angles.
The Confianca player that was taking part in the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior match against Internacional was Arthur. Things just continued to get worse for the Confianca player who was already injured.

Goalies can score too

Written by Administrator

Looks like Landon Donovan’s return to Everton has been overshadowed by a very special top play from another American. Tim Howard decided to take matters in to his own hands during today’s match against Bolton. The Everton keeper kicked the ball from 5 yards inside his own penalty box and it bounced another 30 yards in to the goal. It’s too bad that Bolton came back to win the game.

So he’s not leaving?

Written by Administrator

Early reports about David Beckham going to France to play for Paris Saint-Germain seem to have been a little premature. PSG sporting director Leonardo was introducing new head coach Carlo Ancelotti at a press conference and he also took the time to make some clarifications about Beckham.

David Beckham and his family have been living in Southern California for about 5 years and this may prevent the deal from happening.

Leonardo:

“He is in L.A., he has his family over there. We have talked a lot and we are still talking, but I’m not sure it will be done,”

Henry heads back to England

Written by Administrator

Once the insurance agreement with the New York Red Bulls is reached, Thierry Henry will be leaving on a two month loan to former club Arsenal.

Henry was with Arsenal for eight years from 1999 to 2007. During those eight years he scored a club-record 226 goals and as a result, Arsenal recently unveiled a statue of the superstar outside Emirates Stadium.

Since Gervinho and Marouane Chamkh are leaving Arsenal for the African Cup, Henry’s reunion with the team comes at a very opportune time.

“To cover for two months is ideal…He has the experience and the quality. He knows the club and can help the players on and off the pitch.”

The striker should be back with the Red Bulls by March.

jermaine pennant car aston martin chrome stoke city

Stoke City’s Jermaine Pennant is nothing if not inconspicuous. Just look at his recently upgraded Aston Martin. When he drives down the street, he’s not saying, “Look at me!” but rather, “Look at you! Go ahead and check your makeup and adjust your clothes in my ultra convenient mobile mirror.” Don’t get too carried away, though, ladies. You never know who’s looking back at you from behind that limo tint. More of a mobile two-way mirror, I guess. Creepy.

jermaine pennant stoke city

I do have to give him some credit. If you’re going to attempt to “upgrade” an Aston Martin, you really do have to go big or go home and that’s exactly what Pennant has done. I just can’t look away…
